The emergence of fortified strongholds in the Renaissance and in the sixteenth century due to the need to advance the defense and settlement of artillery for the protection of each of the walls of the castle itself and the proper and effective range of shots to the outside of it, countering the apparent decrease in height over the high walls of the medieval castles that were shown ineffective against the new guns wider and more destructive effect. Five are the bastions of this pentagonal fortification, receiving each the following names: Santa Barbara, Spain, San Francisco, Santa Orosia and San Pedro.
